Maria's Hand
Blue skirt, white socks, black shoes.
Shy, distracted, small.
Alone in a school garden, filled full with kids.
Breakfast spots on her white shirt, made the other kids laugh about her.
Standing in front of Maria’s statue, she stretched her skinny body to touch and hold the statue’s hand.
Day after day she stopped there.
Admiring the statue’s peace and serenity.
Telling her thoughts, dreams, feelings, ideas to the marble sculpture.
