The Blue Spot
Still in a half dream,
John stood up from his bed, trying to wake up, clean his teeth, wash his face,
make a coffee, change his night T-shirt against his day suit, make a second
coffee, go out of the house; walking on his way to the office, thinking about
all he had to do this day. Another too
long – too short day in John’s life.
John used to wake up
around 7am, but his real day started only at 9am when he could be sitting
behind his desk, working, reading over 130 emails, and answering proposals,
dealing with problems. Huge problems.
Owner of a juice company,
John was always dealing with problems, all day long, all 24 hours’ between 9am
and 7pm, like it is supposed to be for a CEO; his obligation was to deal with and
to fix problems all day long. John was a
problem solver and he liked it. He liked
the challenges of his position.
John’s mind, accompanied
by his skinny body, started to work long before 9am. From 7am to 9am he was already focused on his
workday. If he could remember a dream he
had, it was certainly about what happened or would possibly happen inside his
office. All his thoughts were about his work, 9am to 7pm;
this was his real day, the one he lived in, 24 hours long, every day. Day after day after day, including nights.
There where no weekends
for John. Weekends were only a change on
his world Landscape. John spent his
weekends at fairs -- business fairs, fruit fairs, company fairs - learning all that
was there to be learned about his business, after years in the same business he
wondered every time that there were always something he did not know about the
fruit juice world.
Even the 1 hour break for
lunch was spent thinking about what could be improved in the office or
organizing his afternoon inside of his mind, speaking to employees about the
company, in case he would invite one of them to join him at lunch, which
happened from time to time.
Skinny by nature, more tall
than large, John wasn’t a fan of exercises; his exercise was the daily walk to
work, the walk back home and the steps he walked around and inside the company
or weekend fairs. His work already gave
him enough adrenaline to deal with.
John was able to silence
the world around him. Not only silence,
he was able to erase the world around him, almost completely, and focus on more
urgent and important things than to contemplate or see what was going on
outside his Fruit Juice World; he was focused only on what happens in the one
inside of his Company.
If you would ask John what
happened before 9am, he could not give you an accurate answer; his mind was
focused on the period between 900 and 1900. Focus, Focus, Focus, was all he thought he
needed to be successful. Focus on your goal;
focus on the solutions to your problems.
His brown eyes were always inside of the company and never outside of
it.
